Dr. x4mr

Note the gold tassel. This is not about a bachelor's degree. I am delighted to report that your humble blogger has just defended his dissertation before a committee I am honored to call peers, an extraordinary conversation filled with rich and deep distinctions and insights. The ceremony is a month off, but today was the day (or rather, today was the end of months of cerebral gymnastics). I do this once.

I look forward to the decompression, although I imagine I will have periods of time where I literally have no idea what to do. I haven't seen my backyard since July. It probably needs work.

BTW, are folks who connect thru this blog going the little downtown walkabout Monday night starting at Maynards?
We will have to use hand signs to identify ourselves to one another.

C'est fantastique, x4mr! None of us had any doubt, but it's great to hear. Completing a PhD in your late forties is a rare achievement.

Time for a Spellbound and a bottle of Laphroaig.

As you would say, "Profuse Congrats!!"

Not to be mean, but I thought I'd mention that April 15 is this coming Wednesday (use Turbo Tax).

Dr. X4mr. Wow.

Scarlett,
I have wished for an opportunity to get anonymous bloggers together for a while, and to meet some of you all, but of course it's intrinsically difficult.

Maybe I'll go to Maynard's and look for you. The hand signal could be an "x" and a four fingers.

x4mr, congratulations, man. Let's hoist some domestic draughts soon.

This is off-topic, but Greg Shelko was finally asked to walk the plank today. The d*psh*t actually said he "applaud(s) their initiative today", referring to the Rio Nuevo board's decision to eliminate the position of "Downtown Development" director, which paid $126,000.

The RN board, which hasn't met in four months, has decided it's time to reassert control of the project from the City, and Nina Trasoff thinks that this is a great time to get Rio Nuevo out of the City's hands.

Ya think?

Of course, the decision to can Shelko was made for the Rio Nuevo board, by a City Hall under intense pressure from the legislature to dump him. Mike Letcher pretended he heard the news first from the RN board. That's a good one.

What a truly terrific week.

Clothmeisters Hein and Shelko get ousted the same week that x4mr defends his dissertation and becomes Dr. x4mr. I love it!

Congratulations, x4mr. When they shove that swine Snell out the door, it's time for champagne.

Thanks so much all.

Nav,
I fired up an Ashton VSG Sorcerer, an exquisite stick.

Robish,
You are most welcome to go off topic anytime you wish to deliver that kind of news. I will be in San Diego most of next week.

It will be interesting to see how recent developments impact the rest of the clothmeisters, in particular TREO and DTP.

A dissertation for a PhD is no small feat.

Congratulations. I'm sure you've made mama and papa x4mr very proud.

Hearty congratulations from a definite fan of yours !

Holler if you ever need a couch to crash on after the actual ceremony has been completed. We'd love to buy you a beer (or twelve) and toast your brainanity. =D

Congratulations, X4mr. As an observer of your journey, I can just say that I am proud of you.

It's actually kind of amazing what you've done since leaving SAIAT.

It is a class act, my friend.

Again, heartfelt thanks.

I'm petitioning to meet Texpat when she's still single in my next life.

Liza,
When you get a chance, you should look at the comments at the "Star Wars" post. Navigator expressed some thoughts addressed directly towards you.

I just saw a note about the Maynard's event and it is heavily supported by Cloth organizations:

From the Southern Arizona Roadrunners web site:
Supporters of this project include Tucson Association of REALTORS, Greater Tucson Leadership, Southern Arizona Leadership Council, the City of Tucson, Downtown Tucson Partnership, and more.

Still might be worth it to drop in there tonight.

Congratulations, x4mr, and best wishes for a rewarding and worthwhile trajectory. I hope the path allows you to do some teaching. You are so awesome at the front of a room.

What you did at SAIAT was an extraordinary achievement. You made a huge difference for a lot of people. Hopefully you are clear that you had nothing to do with its loss.

I'm clear that you can't say what's next until it's in the can, but please do share when you are able.
