They've Got Tickets to Hell, but They Don't Care

The Pima County GOP has garnered national attention for selling raffle tickets at $10 to win a Glock 23 semi-automatic pistol and three 12-round clips. The Glock 23 is essentially the same pistol as the Glock 19 that Jared Loughner used on January 8th to gun down Congresswoman Giffords, killing six and wounding 14.

(The Glock 19 with the 30 round clip used at the Safeway at Oracle and Ina) What is it with these people? The Republicans have become a damned confusing set of folks. Why aren't the sound thinking business oriented components reacting to the fact hating, science rejecting schizoid hysteria that cheers when a candidate for president declares that hurricanes are a sign from God to control federal spending, or that the USSR is the number one concern among Americans today, or that global warming is fiction as heat records burst like Jiffy Pop and Greenland breaks in half, or that raffling in Giffords district essentially the same damned gun used in that massacre is perfectly reasonable?

(The Glock 23 with the 12 round clip being raffled by the Pima GOP) As the photos show, these are completely different handguns, and the outrage over such a raffle in Giffords district is just nonsense.

Well, it appears there's no shortage of nonsense these days. A former vice-president of this country, one that will go down in history as a war criminal, has all but declared he was the acting president during his boss's first term, and now, the current GOP front runner for president has a book, Fed Up!, that reads more like Mein Kampf than Dreams from my Father.

Whether their tickets are for a ride to, at best, a world that no longer exists, or worse, to Hell itself, or their tickets raffle off a gun that butchered many including a Congresswoman in her own district, they simply don't care.

Rick Perry makes George Bush look intelligent, and I didn't think that was possible. These are scary times.

Since when was arrogant and stupid a winning combination?

Nothing surprises me anymore. I had read elsewhere that they said something along the lines of "we stand behind the second amendment." Fine. whatever. the second amendment is the only one that matters I guess.

Regardless, is it really that hard to have some goddamned sense? who the fuck raffles off a weapon anyway?

I’m as confused as x4mr if not more so regarding the Republican embrace of blind righteousness supported by ignorance and stupidity. Michele Bachmann is saying she’s like Margaret Thatcher. Rick Perry said that science has been hijacked by the “political left,” and that (direct quote) “Al Gore is a prophet all right, a false prophet of a secular carbon cult.”

Secular carbon cult?

This is the leading Republican for the presidential nomination?

This is scary and dangerous. Perhaps we are seeing the Achilles heal of the Republicans, their inability to produce a viable candidate because they’re so infested with nut jobs who still insist the earth is flat, 4000 years old, and at the center of the universe. While this may help Obama get re-elected, what happens if the psycho wins?

Does the winner of the Glock get cross-hair target practice sheets with photos of Democrats, Muslims, Buddhists, vegetarians, non-whites, and “the gay”?

I really do not think there are any "sound thinking business oriented components" left in the GOP. If those people still exist, they have long ago registered as independents.

What seems to be left of the GOP are the plutocrats and their buddies in Congress and the rightwing media who yank the chains of the Tea Party activists and sympathizers.

Their election strategy for Rick Perry or fill-in-the-clown's-name of whoever ends up being nominated has only three parts:
1.) Use of all media available to make personal attacks on President Obama and other Democrats. This could range from short statements like, "Obama is to blame for this mess of an economy we've got" to photoshopped pictures sent in emails showing President Obama as the child of apes.
2.) Disenfranchisement of Democratic voters in key states.
3.) Mobilization of the Tea Party activist base to get out the vote for whichever fool ends up getting the GOP nomination.

I hope everyone understands that it doesn't matter a great deal which of the ass-clowns gets nominated. Can you really differentiate between a President Bachmann and a President Perry? Do you really think a President Romney will not toe the party line for the billionaires?

There seems to be a growing school of thought that just one more GOP administration would do what many think needs to be done and that is to force a populist uprising. Well, I just don't know. This ain't exactly Egypt and who wants to make that gamble? Too many of the most vulnerable people would be hurt. We could end up halting all progress for a generation or more.

Let's face this. We can't even talk to these people anymore about anything. Their disrespect for the first African American and all of the Democrats, for that matter, is all that defines them at this point. What else are they about? What vision have they got for the future? In fact, try to imagine the future as they might see it. What are we supposed to be in the 21st century? A nation of serfs ruled by the top one percent of those controlling the wealth? That seems to be where they want to take us.

Liza,

I recall many comments from self described conservatives bashing liberals and democrats for "Bush Derangement Syndrome." This is seemingly no different. The only thing that matters to them is ensuring that Obama fails to be re-elected. Hell, Boehner came out and explicitly stated this.

nothing else matters. Presumably, with Obama out of the picture, they can go back to their tax cutting without corrsponding budget cuts, and call that revenue generation. Or maybe go back to legislating morality, or whatever the hell it is they are promising to do. Maybe they can fire up some more foreign adventurism on behalf of the MI complex.

I wonder how the GOP would react if the Tucson Dems raffled off a notebook weirdly similar to the one Ronald Reagan used to keep track of stuff (like his wife's name anmaybe his own) that he just couldn't remember any more...
